Last week saw breaks producer Asphalt and DJ Restless1 proving Data:bass ought not sleep on the Nu Skool, while chin stroking leftfielders, raving tourists and naughty schoolgirls mingled with the usual data:bass lurkers. Reports of an alleged beetroot burger being consumed on or near the premises are unsubstantiated.

So get this: 8 hours of full spectrum subterranean beats, DJ's and live producers ; free CD featuring 80 minutes of exclusive local downbeats, breakbeats and D'n B; and believe it when I say hook ups to the FREE BREAKFAST at 6am! And it's $5. The lunatics are the ones who won't be at mental illness!

Mental Illness @ Paradise Bar 2003/2004

MENTAL ILLNESS was a weekly night designed to become an outlet for the DATA:BASS DJ's and producers to explore other sides of the electronic/ turntable spectrum with a real leftfield sensibility.

With MENTAL ILLNESS we promote diversity as the new purism. The general concept is that beyond the boundaries of genre there can be a genuine appreciation for evocative and provocative tunes wether commercial, experimental, emotional or absurd, across the full spectrum of turntable based genres - our only exception being format Dance music which we hear enough of anyway.

HQ PRESENTS . . .

TRANSGRESSION – (NEXT DATE UNCONFIRMED) - $10
DJ'S -FICTION : KYREN : CULPRIT : TEDDY EDIT : ROMANTECH : QB : SELEKTAH Q : VISUALS - NINEZ with thanks to FLUIDMOTION

Fiction by Sanja

The first Transgression that occured on June 21 2003 was so stupidly successful that HQ dynamo DJ Fiction is anticipating a swift return, leading the charge out of the clubs and into the suburban wilds for full on, no holds barred, barf'n booze Drum'n Bass at it's barnstorming best. Only the biggest and baddest anthems will be relentlessly rinsed for the benefit of full capacity crowds in locations throughout the East Coast Bays of the North Shore. Data:bass have got it locked down with sweet security (no glass in the gig) but wear sensible shoes and be ready for a wild night of stonking drum'n bass served up with a Hip Hop entree.

with thanks to UNDERGROUND SKATEBOARDS

MENTAL ILLNESS 01 - COMPILATION OUT NOW - $9-10!
DJ F ICTION : GENERAL PRACTITIONER : 4TUNE ; MILLION : ROMANTECH/HAZE : JAMIE NEWMAN : DR_LOVELAZY : OOSTERDADDY : KYREN : SHUNRYU : SOUNDLAYDEE : STYLE OVER SUBSTANCE : FIDGET : TUMOR

MENTAL ILLNESS is no longer a unique night of experimental turntable genre clash where diversity is the new purism and all that. But the MENTAL ILLNESS Compilation 01 is OUT NOW and you can get it from Play Records and Beautiful Music in the K rd area, and probably a few other little places too.
It features 20 fat tunes from 15 artists of downbeat, mad breakbeats, electro and all sorts of crazy eclectronica, and it's no more then $10.

We're keen to start doing the gig again, but it needs to be a bit more casual for us. If some one else was willing to take care of bringing decks . . .
