If you would like to book in to play the Indie Club.....taking bookings now! (AK)

The Indie Club is a regular event that has been running regularly in Auckland for the past 3 years. It is a gig that promotes bands/artists both
live and recorded. Ideal for new, up&coming and established acts to expand their audience and get their music into peoples hands.

Here's some info about how it works.... The entry price is $10 on the door that includes a FREE cd. Our main focus is to get cds into peoples hands. We cover all the costs of putting the show on i.e.:advertising, production, time, cds etc. There is no payment for playing however if you bring cds along on the night the indie club will buy some to add to the mix of cds available on the door.

We buy albums for $10, eps for $6 or samplers/demos for $5. Note: CD's need to be presentable i.e.: with a cover and a printed disc. Much of the time the patrons are buying cds on how they look and if they look bad, they won't sell.We will guarantee to buy at least 5 cds regardless if they sell or not on the night..... more if the turnout is good. In order for you to get the most out of the Indie Club, it is important to have your cds in the mix
available on the door.

Pre-sale tickets are available to participating bands for $7 each. Note: Pre-sale tickets are now optional.
At present we are booking the Kings Arms every Monday (mainly new bands)
PR Bar on Tuesdays & Thursdays (mainly singer/songwriter or bands in stripped back form)
Masonic, Devonport last Saturday of each month. (mainly bands)

Looking For Local Music (Chch)

In late November The Physics Room will host Sparkling Duets, a night of couples playing music together, developed by Wellington-based artist Louise Menzies.

Sparkling Duets, Christchurch will happen at the Wunderbar on Saturday 24 November, 8pm, and is looking for couples from Christchurch to be involved. A short set only is required (2 or 3 songs) with original music preferred but covers ok.

The first Sparkling Duets happened in Wellington in 2005 with seven couples performing a series of short musical sets. Many of the performers already played in bands or had a musical background, with Sparkling Duets offering the energies of their relationship a new means for expression. As well as taking the particular qualities and inter-personal dynamics of a romantic couple as a space for performance, Sparkling Duets also responds directly to the local music community, offering new musical combinations from within a group of people who often already know each other or even play together already in other bands. For others it is a chance to perform, possibly for the first time, with the confidence and support of someone close to them.

Sparkling Duets, Christchurch will be the third instalment of this ongoing performance project, following the 2006 New Plymouth edition as part of the Govett-Brewster Art Gallerys performance series Mostly Harmless.
If you are interested in being part of the project or would just like some more information, please contact either:

Sustain magazine is seeking material to review in its inaugural issue.

Sustain is an online publication that's going live in December. It's aiming to fill a current gap in New Zealand audio art culture in providing a place
for the in-depth discussion of audio art and challenging musical forms from New Zealand and beyond. The first issue is now well on the way and will be promoted through international music and arts media, as we're hoping to attract an international as well as local readership.

http://www.aucklandcitylibraries.com/findyoursubject/music/madeinauckland/madeinaucklandhowtosubmit.htm

Did you know that the music collection at Central City Library is about the biggest in the country with over 22,000 CDs and 35,000 music scores alone - all available on loan.

Fringe Database

Fringe is here to support creative practitioners and their practice, so we've decided to compile a database supplying a list of the creative talent
out there.

We field heaps of requests each year for producers, technicians, actors, production managers, publicists and the like, many of which come from people outside of Wellington who need locals 'on the ground' to assist them with their project.

If you're interested in advertising your skills in this way, please send us an email to welcome@fringe.org.nz with your contacts details (name/phone/email), your expertise/skills (e.g. dancer, lighting technician, director) and preferred areas of work (theatre, dance, visual arts, music, etc.).

This is a great opportunity to see who's doing what and make everyone more easily accessible.

November / December to May / June. Approx 15-20 hours per week. Hours and days flexible to an extent. There will be some evening and weekend work. Reporting to the Acting Marketing & Promotions Manager whilst the Head of Marketing is away on maternity leave - this role is to generally lend a helping hand in the marketing department - so the successful candidate can expect tasks to be very varied! It would be a great experience for a driven marketing student - and, as expected when working at New Zealands #1 music television channel, there will also be a few perks of course :-) We have lots of fun but work extremely hard, so if this sounds like you - please send in a very concise resume detailing your experience, aspirations, situation and generally why you should be "the one".
