Azumuth was started
in 2007 by singer/songwriter Aidan Dickens. Aidan had recently left
his old band 'Loki' and moved to Australia from New Zealand. For a lw The Azumuth sound is hard and heavy, with moments of pensive tranquility blended with both melody, and catchiness. All this is characterized by a punchy energetic rhythm section, loud and full sounding guitars, epic strings and Aidan's unique vocal sound which he uses to sing both heavy and softer material. The music rises and falls like a wave; sometimes crashing forward like an all consuming tsunami, a force of nature that envelops all in it's path, at other times it dies down to a relative calmness like a serene summers day at the beach. The themes of the debut album are wide and varied, and at times deeply personal. They revolve around the cycle of life; what it is to be human and why, when to stand up for yourself and what you believe in, what makes us complete; or 'incomplete' as the title suggests, and addresses also the dark nature that lurks within us all. These are the ideas that have fascinated Aidan for many years; who are we? Yes, the world isn't in a pristine state at the moment, but why is that? The world is shaped by the individual and whatever shape that is; it all comes from within each and every one of us. These are questions Aidan asks by drawing on his own experiences as both a musician and a human being. Azumuth is in a gestation period, about to be born for the world to see. The new album contains 14 tracks and is a journey through the darkest recesses of the human psyche to the brightest corners of the human experience. It truly is, as another title suggests; a journey.
